It is an evergreen plant that at our latitudes is cultivated as an indoor plant of contained dimensions. It has thick branches and smooth rounded and fleshy leaves of a jade-green colour that gets red when the plant is grown in full sun.

It blooms in late spring with white, pink or red flowers in panicles.
